I started translating the dance diagrams by isolating the movements. At first, I literally took the same lines from the diagrams, but most of them were created from what the actions and what their characteristics meant. For instance, I concentrated a lot on the words: balance, pull, sliding, parallel, bending, resistance and opening.
Though most of them didn’t turn out how I expected them to, they still allowed me to learn from them. I wanted to explore different joint types and different materials. They are the lines and joints that occur within the movement and space. They are all working at a small scale, for now.
